Indian Spring Colours Simrandeep Kaur (Taus) & Harikiran Sahota (Tabla)

Step into the colours of spring with an immersive afternoon of Indian classical music, where melody, rhythm, and tradition come together in a soulful live concert experience.
At the heart of this concert is Simrandeep Kaur, the UK’s only female exponent of the Taus—a rare and evocative bowed string instrument deeply rooted in Hindustani and Gurbani music traditions. Her performances are known for their depth, serenity, and emotional resonance, bringing ancient ragas to life for contemporary audiences.
Simrandeep’s musical journey reflects years of rigorous and diverse training. She studied Gurbani Sangeet and Taus techniques under Bhai Siripal Singh Ji, Hindustani vocal music under Ms. Shruti Kumar (disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty), and continues to refine her artistry under the advanced mentorship of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE.
A respected performer, educator, and cultural ambassador, Simrandeep has performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including Harivallabh, India’s oldest classical music festival. In recognition of her impact through music and community work, she was honoured as a Community Musician by His Majesty King Charles III at Windsor Castle in 2025.
Accompanying on tabla is Harikan Sahota, whose rhythmic sensitivity and clarity provide the perfect foundation for this afternoon performance. Captivated by the sound of the tabla from a young age, Harikiran began learning under the guidance of his father, Surendar Singh Sahota, before embarking on a serious path of training in 2014 as a disciple of the world-renowned tabla maestro Pandit Sanju Sahai. An emerging talent, Harikiran brings both precision and expressive energy to the stage.
