Refugee Week Celebrations

GemArts with other regional partners including Newcastle Council and Gateshead Council programmed a series of events to celebrate National Refugee Week. As well as various cross art form workshops we programmed our first theatre production – Banner Theatres’ “Wild Geese” which looked at issues faced by Asylum Seeker and Refugee communities living in the UK and addressing the negative stereotypes which are perpetuated by some sections of the press and media. 
We also programmed an evening of music and dance by artists and musicians from Refugee communities living and working in the region with contributions from African, South American, Asian and Middle Eastern artists/performers.
